This tip will help you to avoid using the Excel Query Extract Tool. I have used this tool to export Query \ Collection results, Advertisements and Site Status messages  directly from the MMC. This feature will not work for SMS Admin Consoles running within MMC versions priorto 1.2.

Try this: From within the the SMS SP2 Admin Console open the Queries Tree, from the left pane right-click on the a query and select run. Right-click the same query again, select Export List from the pop-up menu. In the Save As Type drop-down box select .csv. This feature will allow you to save the query in a format that can be opened in Excel.
