September 11, 2002

SlickEdit announced the general availability of Visual SlickEdit v7 for the Wind River Systems' Tornado 2.2 embedded integrated development environment (IDE). Tornado 2.2 is Wind River's newly released upgrade to its embedded software and development tools platform. Visual SlickEdit is the multi-platform, multi-language editing environment that is designed to increase the productivity of software developers and improve the quality of the software they develop.

According to the companies, the latest Tornado release is a significant upgrade that provides embedded systems developers with the most dependable and reliable real-time operating system (RTOS) and embedded tool set on the market. With the integration to Visual SlickEdit v7, the Tornado IDE should allow embedded systems developers to take advantage of Visual SlickEdit v7 enhancements for C++ users such as a complete edit/compile/debug environment for GNU C++, an automated build system for C++, and many C++ project wizards. Visual SlickEdit also includes a set of tools to simplify organizing, and analyzing and working with code in addition to improving the readability of code and managing files.

"Wind River selected Visual SlickEdit as the high-end editor option for our most advanced Tornado product yet to ensure our customers have the best tools to accelerate their development projects," said Rob McCammon, director of marketing for the Wind River tools division. "We are committed to providing our customers with best-in-class solutions with our premier partners, and this significant editor upgrade to our Tornado development environment certainly fits the bill."

The companies say that Visual SlickEdit provides unparalleled language and platform support, including support for Solaris SPARC, FreeBSD, Windows, Linux x86, Linux on zSeries, AIX, HP-UX, IRIX, OS/390 and z/OS and over 30 programming languages.
