Akonix Beefs Up IM Gateway
Akonix Systems has updated its instant messaging gateway, introducing integration with Microsoft management tools and enhancing its message archiving capabilities.Akonix has added Microsoft management tools, more flexible user archives, and support for Google's new IM network to its flagship product.
The company's L7 Enterprise product is an IM gateway the runs on Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Server systems, providing management, security and archiving for a number of enterprise and public instant messaging systems.
This week's update to version 4.3 of the gateway introduces two key updates and a number of additional enhancements.
System administrators gained integration with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005. L7 Enterprise v4.3 includes system health and IM performance counters to MOM consoles. End users gained access to personalized IM archives to enable faster access to older IM sessions.
In addition to those two features, Akonix announced several other enhancements, including advanced LDAP synchronization, enabling users to selectively synch from LDAP stores without requiring a full update each time; support for Google's Google Talk network; support for Microsoft Live Communications Server (LCS) clustering and fail-over support; and support for user-specified database purging, which will allow end users to determine how long messages are retained in the appliance's archive, provided that duration is in keeping with company compliance regulations.
