Sendmail Unleashes Anti-spam Filter for Mailstream Manager
Sendmail is no stranger to the anti-spam market; the company has been selling anti-spam software since 1998.
This latest offering is part of Sendmail Mailstream Manager, Sendmail's e-mail management solution for managing spam and unwanted messages, as well as other e-mail content issues, like viruses and message copying from a single administration point.
Advanced Anti-Spam Filter's technique differs from that of many of the other anti-spam offerings currently available. "Because our filter is policy-based and can be fully integrated into the e-mail infrastructure, it can evolve along with our customers' needs to help them beat spam in the long term," explained Greg Olson, chairman and co-founder of Sendmail.
This policy-based approach is implemented through rule sets and full-text analysis. The Filter can then be customized to the individual user via custom rules based on its linguistic full-text analysis engine.
In addition to spam, the Filter can be set to weed out unwanted content, such as offensive language, sexually explicit content, and hate mail. Organizations can also use the Filter to append watermarks or legal disclaimers.
The Filter features real-time alerts for individual policy violations, comprehensive Web reporting, and wizards to simplify policy setting and customization.
The Advanced Anti-Spam Filter comes pretrained with tens of thousands of messages to identify spam. It analyzes the entire message, including headers, subject line, body text, and 200 attachment types. Enterprises can then apply their e-mail policy configurations to the Filter, adjust the scanning sensitivity of rules and take a variety of actions on offending or suspect messages.
The Sendmail Advanced Anti-Spam Filter is deployed at the Internet gateway.
The Sendmail Advanced Anti-Spam Filter integrates into Mailstream Manager. Other content management components include: Sendmail Flow Control, which provides a system-level defense to defeat address harvesting and Denial of Service attacks by regulating the flow of messages or connections to e-mail servers; Sendmail Switch, a message transfer agent that offers native spam-blocking features; and Sendmail Log Management Service, an administrative console for sys admins to view the e-mail infrastructure and pinpoint spam attacks and abuse.
The Sendmail Advanced Anti-Spam Filter is available for immediate purchase on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server and Solaris 8. It requires Sendmail Switch 2.2.5 or higher.
