NCS Grows Functional Reference Platforms Product Suite With New Server Offerings
Functional Reference Platforms are NCS' standard hardware appliance servers designed to be configured easily and quickly to serve as initial test platforms and "approximate" prototypes. They are also the basic building blocks the vendor uses when establishing configured systems to meet requested performance specifications. Functional Reference Platforms can be used to test, optimize, and finalize computing power, disk capacity, memory, and operating system, as well as to tune and optimize application performance.NCS Technologies Wednesday released two rack-mountable set-top appliance platforms that will be part of its Functional Reference Platforms product suite, a variety of offerings aimed at providing quick test platforms for ISVs to test application software for performance.
The NCSAPP 100-P is a rack-mountable 1U set-top server appliance. It can be configured with an Intel Pentium 4 processor that supports speeds up to 2.8 GHz. The 100-P features a 12-inch deep footprint, and it can support 2 GB of fast DDR memory, a 20 GB or higher capacity EIDE hard drive, up to four network interfaces (100 MB and Gigabit). It also has an optional LCD display.
NCS is claiming the 12-inch-deep NCSAPP 200-P to be the world's smallest rack mountable 2U set-top. It can be configured with an Intel Pentium 4 processor supporting speeds up to 3.06 GHz, fast DDR memory up to 2 GB, two 20 GB or higher capacity EIDE drives, and an LCD display. The hard drives can be configured as RAID drives to provide higher redundancy. The 200-P also comes with two free PCI slots to add network interfaces (100 MB and Gigabit) or any other add-on card functionality required for an appliance.
Both the 100-P and the 200-P are BSD, Linux, and Windows compatible.
Pranay Prakash, executive director, OEM Servers & Appliances for NCS noted that the new offerings are "designed based on highly reliable 'Intel' architecture. These products are suited for a wide variety of applications such as Web hosting, mail filtering, etc. and can act as perfect network security devices such as firewalls or VPNs. Each of these appliances can be custom configured to meet the exact performance and branding needs of our ISV partners."
"These products provide a very cost-effective, ultra-compact, high-performance appliance platforms for our ISV partners and are highly suitable for large and easy volume deployment," An Nguyen, President of NCS added.
The 100-P and the 200-P are priced starting from $600. Both products are available immediately.
