Acknowledging that Solaris 10 will be an incremental improvement over Solaris 9, Sun CTO John Fowler discussed what's next in an interview with SiliconValley.internet.com:

"Solaris 10 will be an incremental improvement over Solaris 9 but we're going include some really interesting technology and resource management. Today when you look at domaining and you look at hyper visor technology and conventional technology and partitioning of systems and handling workloads, one of the things we are doing is to give a new view in resource management.

"We spent an enormous amount of work on reliability and specifically we are introducing technology to improve observability. So in that way, a high-end developer or an IT administrator can look at the tools you have to know what exactly is happening in a system, how resources are being consumed, where deadlock and other SMP issues are, how memory is being used etc. Acknowledging that Solaris 10 will be an incremental improvement over Solaris 9, Sun CTO John Fowler discussed what's next in an interview with SiliconValley.internet.com.

"In and of itself, these observability tools we've used to improve the security and the reliability of Solaris internally. We've been finding and fixing all of these interesting things because we have this new way of looking at our own system. But the side effect for customers is that major ISVs [Internet Service Vendor], whether they are database managers or whatever, will be able to improve the availability and reliability of their applications. The tools themselves don't impact the reliability, the people using them do."
