Continuous Computing Announces upSuite
Continuous Computing, a provider of high-availability network-ready computing platforms for telecom equipment manufacturers, recently announced that its upSuite HA middleware product will be available in the first quarter of 2003 on Intel architecture-based platforms running the Linux operating system. Continuous Computing will release its upSuite HA middleware product, an offering that allows heterogeneous failover and replication designs, during the first quarter of next year.
upSuite will support various carrier-grade Linux distributions, beginning with MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition from MontaVista Software.
According to the company, upSuite is a high-availability middleware product that provides one of the highest levels of availability for any application in any telco or enterprise environment. upSuite features sub-second failure detection and failover initiation for problems caused by any software, hardware, or network failure. The creation of a hot standby through both disk data replication and application state persistence enables such rapid failover. The architecture and implementation of upSuite is designed to enable heterogeneous networks to failover and provide disaster recovery between platforms running different operating systems. Because of upSuite's transparent implementation, projects now under consideration or in development will require no modification to run under upSuite.
In addition, upSuite allows heterogeneous failover and replication designs. "One platform can be running, for example, the Solaris OS and another can be running Linux. upSuite's revolutionary design allows failover of applications and replication of files between the platforms," said Simon Waters, VP of worldwide sales for Continuous Computing.
"Telecom customers are looking to drive down costs by transitioning to a standards-based Modular Communications Platform," said Ron Peck, Intel's communications software marketing director. "Intel continues to work with companies like Continuous Computing to enable highly reliable solutions based on Intel Architecture."
