Symantec's new policy module is designed to integrate into Symantec ESM (5.5 or 5.1), a vulnerability management solution that offers IT security administrators the ability to reduce corporate risk by automating and centralizing their security policy compliance management and security assessments.
Based on the HIPAA security standard 142.308, Symantec ESM for HIPAA should provide pre-configured HIPAA-based security policies, allowing organizations to audit their environment for HIPAA security standard compliance. The HIPAA policies are designed specifically to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data.
Symantec ESM and ESM for HIPAA are backed by Symantec Security Response, which should deliver knowledgeable, proactive security protection through product security policies and best practice guidelines that can be updated and distributed through automated processes. Additionally, Symantec Security Response should provide rapid reactive security protection through its incident response program, including emergency signatures, definitions and policies, and outbound communications, such as alerting services.
Symantec ESM for HIPAA supports multiple operating systems such as Solaris 2.6-8, Red Hat Linux 6.2-7.0, HP-UX 10-11, AIX 4.x and Windows NT/2000/XP. For more information, please visit Symantec's enterprise Web site at http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com.
