Curl Corp. Introduces Client/Web Architecture
Presenting what it sees as a revolution in desktop-driven Web productivity, Curl Corp. Monday introduced its new Client/Web architecture. Curl believes this technology will enable organizations to reclaim the desktop power of client/server technology so they can deliver enterprise-level applications that leverage the deployment efficiencies of the Web.
The Client/Web platform offers a runtime environment and an IDE with an extensible programming language to create rich client-side enterprise applications centrally controlled and delivered over the Web. It consists of a runtime engine and an integrated development environment that includes a VB-like visual GUI editor and a fully extensible programming language.Presenting what it sees as a revolution in desktop-driven Web productivity, Curl Corp. Client/Web is banking on the idea that the next wave of technology will require the capacity to deliver application code over the network so that it executes on a client rich enough to run it.
" ... despite its client-side focus, the Curl Client/Web architecture is entirely complementary to server-side platforms, like Sun's J2EE and Microsoft's .NET, and is perfectly suited for enterprise software as it launches into Web services and enterprise portal projects," noted John Capobianco, executive vice president of planning for Curl.
With all of the presentation work and appropriate business logic executing on the client, Curl aims to optimize server resources. Similarly, Curl frees the network from carrying constant back-and-forth requests and server-generated Web pages. As a result, Curl-based applications are scalable and economical, the vendor said.
The runtime environment includes more than 4,000 APIs that programmers can use out of the box; developers can also build their own features on top, with no limits. In addition, the object-oriented power of the Curl platform IDE renders any Curl-based application extensible.
After four years of development, the first Client/Web platform will ship in early July.
Siemens IC Mobile division is currently the most high-profile Curl customer. The vendor replaced an earlier EIS built in Java with a Curl-powered EIS servers as its standard reporting and strategic management system.
Next week, Curl will announce 18 system integrators embracing the Client/Web platform and will reveal how an independent software vendor fortified its flagship enterprise asset management with a Curl-powered user interface.
