Sybase Offers Free Developers Edition of EAServer 4.0
Sybase, Inc., this week made Sybase EAServer 4.0 Developer's Edition available as a free download from its Web site.
This availability coincides with Sybase's initial shipment of the deployment version of EAServer 4.0 that it first announced in August.Sybase this week made Sybase EAServer 4.0 Developer's Edition available as a free download from its Web site. This availability coincides with the app server vendors' initial shipment of the deployment version of EAServer 4.0.
Sybase is releasing the Developer Edition for Windows and Solaris in lieu of its usual practice of providing evaluation editions of new products with 60-day time limits.
This version, however, still carries some constraints.
Sybase has made the free version available so developers can build and test applications before upgrading to another edition of EAServer, and although the Developer Edition has all of EAServer's features, it is restricted to five Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) connections and requires the user buy a full-use licenses before actually deploying applications.
The Developer Edition can be downloaded at www.sybase.com/easerverdev. A CD version with a manual is also available for $99.
The Developer Edition is one of four editions of EAServer 4.0. Small Business Edition, Advanced Edition, and Enterprise Edition are the other options. All four versions, according to Sybase, are designed to offer a scalable, robust application server for developing, building, and deploying e-portal and Internet business solutions using core J2EE standards, including JavaBeans and Java Server Pages.
EAServer 4.0 also offers cross-client and cross-component support for almost any type of application based on CORBA, XML, HTML, DHTML, any ActiveX client, PowerBuilder, COM, C, and C++.
