Veritas Software Corp. and Unisys Corp. Tuesday announced that they have partnered.

Both vendors believe that customers demanding enterprise-class technology for Windows 2000 environments will benefit from increased performance and enhanced management capabilities delivered by the combination of Veritas Volume Manager and the Unisys ES7000.

"We're working with Veritas Software to continue our proven success of combining their leading data availability software solutions with our leading-edge hardware technologies to enable customers to manage and protect their business-critical data," said Jeffrey Bell, vice president and general manager, Storage Program, Unisys Corporation.

"Easy-to-use online storage-management tools are critical to our customers' success in deploying storage-area networks, and Veritas Volume Manager will help Unisys launch new storage-area network solutions for consolidating storage and assuring high availability of our customers' data," Bell added.

"We're pleased that Unisys selected our product, as it further demonstrates our ability to seamlessly integrate our technologies and provide customers with complete data availability solutions," Frank Artale, vice president and general manager, Windows Division, Veritas said.

In a separate announcement, Unisys published data that revealed that the performance of its ES7000 server surpassed Sun and Oracle's 64-bit processors in mySAP.com benchmarking tests.

The Unisys ES7000 surpassed the best performance of any Sun/Oracle system, which was 19,360 SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark users. The results were obtained using SAP R/3 v4.0B, Solaris 8, and Oracle v8.1.5 running on a Sun Enterprise 10000 64-processor UltraSPARC II 400 MHz SMP server with 8 MB level-two cache and 64 GB of main memory.
