PrimePower 1 Offers One More Choice in the Unix Arena
Fujitsu Technology Solutions Wednesday announced the PrimePower 1 server, the latest addition to its PrimePower line of SPARC-compliant, Solaris-compatible servers.
PrimePower 1 is a super-thin Unix server designed for rack-mount deployment in the data center, where space is usually at a premium. At only 1U (1.7 inches) high, the PrimePower 1 can be mass-racked to maximize floor space.Fujitsu Technology Solutions Wednesday announced the PrimePower 1 server, the latest addition to its PrimePower line of SPARC-compliant, Solaris-compatible servers.
The server can be used for firewalls, Web hosting, branch office applications, and print servers. It provides a high level of reliability and access to a variety of applications.
PrimePower 1 is a Unix-based solution designed for large-scale computing in enterprises looking for support for data-intensive Internet applications and Web-related commerce.
"With this addition to our SPARC-compliant PrimePower family of servers, Fujitsu Technology Solutions injects more choice into the Solaris market, invigorating it against competitors HP, IBM, and Compaq," said Richard McCormack, vice president of marketing for Fujitsu Technology Solutions in a prepared statement.
PrimePower 1 runs on the 500-MHz UltraSPARC IIe processor with a maximum of 2 GB of memory and 72.8 GB of disk capacity. The disks in the system are front-accessible for easier management and can be hot-swapped without interrupting service.
Fujitsu Technology Solutions offers customizable PrimePower servers across the entire spectrum of data center requirements, ranging from 1-processor servers to 128-processor servers. All PrimePower servers feature a system bus with crossbar switch technology adapted from Fujitsu's mainframe design, which results in a super-high data transfer rate.
Fujitsu Technology Solutions was founded in November 2000. It aims to develop open systems in response to marketplace direction. The company brings together the resources and expertise of Fujitsu Limited's subsidiaries and leverages Fujitsu's manufacturing capabilities along with a $9-billion global research and development budget.
