Covalent Releases Apache Products for Windows
With this latest port, Covalent can claim support for all of the major operating systems.Covalent Technologies Wednesday at ApacheCon announced that its enterprise products Covalent SSL and Covalent Fast Start Server are now available for the Windows platform.
Support for Windows is a significant addition for enterprise customers that wish to use Apache as their Web server. Instead of using different Web servers for different operating systems, and thus raising the cost of ownership and complexity of management, customers can now deploy Apache across all major platforms.
"Our large enterprise customers want to make Apache their default Web server of choice, yet at the same time, they make use of many different operating systems including Windows, Unix and Linux. This port allows them to simplify the management of their Web content delivery systems," said John M. Jack, president and chief executive officer of Covalent in a prepared statement.
"By using Covalent they can tie all of these needs together under one common framework, regardless of operating system. Supporting these operating systems is a crucial step in our quest to be the defacto enterprise software provider for Web content delivery," Jack added.
The Covalent Fast Start Server uses a graphical installation program for installation of SSL, PHP, DAV, Perl, Apache JServ, and Jakarta Tomcat. This makes installation of these various components easier and more cost effective. Covalent Fast Start Server is priced at $995.
Covalent SSL provides industrial grade 128-bit encryption for the Apache Web server. Covalent SSL is priced at $495.
The two products are available on Windows 2000 and Windows NT and can be downloaded in purchased or trial versions on Covalent's Web site.
Founded in 1998, Covalent offers enterprise-ready support of Apache. Companies such as Lucent Technologies and Dow Jones are using Covalent products for their Apache Web server infrastructure.
