Application server vendor Zack Systems, this week introduced Zack Edge Application Server, its edge solution for Internet service providers (ISPs) and virtual ISPs.

The vendor's "edge solution" (so named because the server sits on the edge of the network) is designed to enable an ISP to market enhanced services, present advertising, and promote its brand to subscribers. The Zack Edge Application Server is a software platform and full suite of applications. Among it's key features are its capabilities to add, extract, monitor, and modify content on any Web page in real-time.

With the Zack Edge Application Server, the vendor claims the first solution to offer multiple applications on one platform. Applications include anonymous browsing, server-side bookmarks, dynamic content compression, intelligent advertising, and watermark branding.

"We have successfully leveraged our patent-pending technology to deliver a money-making suite of applications to network service providers," Dave Weinstein, Zack's president and CEO said in a prepared statement.

The Zack Edge Application Server offers a variety of value-added applications for easy implementation by network service providers. By delivering applications at the network edge, ISPs can deploy applications and features on top of existing Web traffic without client-side downloads. The Zack Edge Application Server also operates in conjunction with existing network architecture and does not interfere with caching systems or other server networks.

The server also has an open set of APIs for third-party application development and deployment.

Other features in Zack's Edge Application Server include a consistent and branded user interface, a multitabbed applications panel, and the capability to automatically upsell services. Applications such as virus scanning, content filtering, and content translation will soon be available on the platform.

Founded in 1999, privately held Zack Systems offers two products along with Zack Edge Application Server. Zack Access Panel is designed for network service providers, and Zack Intranet Panel is designed for enterprises.
