Unify Corp. Tuesday released Unify eWave Engine 4.0, a high-performance application server. This latest version of the moderately priced Web-based app server enables organizations to take advantage of the latest industry standards in the J2EE platform, including JavaServer Pages (JSP), servlets, and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB).

"Unify eWave Engine 4.0 allows price sensitive organizations to take advantage of J2EE technology in developing B2B and B2C applications and Web-based solutions," said Dave Glende, chief technology officer at Unify.

This latest release of Unify eWave Engine includes usability enhancements in installation and administration, and seamless migration from Java servlet to EJB component-based development. Enterprises can use servlets and JSP to deliver Web solutions, and have the built-in functionality to evolve them to EJB components to meet future business requirements.

Unify eWave Engine fully supports key components of the J2EE suite of standards, including Java Servlet API 2.2, JSP 1.1, and EJB 1.1 technologies. It runs on all major Web servers, including Microsoft IIS, Netscape Enterprise Server, iPlanet Web Server, and Apache.

Unify eWave Engine 4.0 is available for download and purchase in two editions: Access and Enterprise. Unify eWave Engine Access Edition supports servlets, JSPs, and EJB and is priced at $595 per CPU. The Enterprise Edition is priced at $2,495 per CPU and extends the server's functionality to support advanced deployment functionality required in multiserver configurations (e.g., replication, failover, and load balancing).

An evaluation version of Unify eWave Engine is also available for download.
