Server-storage-networking architecture is unpredictable without proper planning. While Virtualization gives an IT department a lot of freedom when it comes to building up and down its services, however this Virtustream article notes that along with the freedom of virtualization, many organizations have completely forgone IT infrastructure plan.

 

"It’s not predictable out there, said David Scott, SVP & General Manager for HP Storage, ESSN. People are requisitioning services without planning. This is putting a lot of pressure on IT.

"Virtualized environments used to have planning horizons. Ten years ago when virtualization was introduced, the planning time to build out the network was five years. Five years later that build out shrunk to two years. Today, there’s no planning horizon. Virtual machines are torn up and down within days, explained Scott."
