Red Hat Sees VMware at the Biggest Competitor
While many see Oracle, Novell, or Microsoft as the biggest enterprise open source software competitor of Red Hat, Reseller News reports that Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst recently said VMware was the company's largest competitor because the two companies share an overall vision of cloud computing.
Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst recently stated that VMware was the open source software vendor's largest competitor.
"'When you start thinking about who is defining cloud-based architectures, it's us and them,' he said. 'We're the only two companies that have the components to really do cloud.'
"While admitting kinship with VMware, Whitehurst was quick to point out what he saw as the flaws in VMware's approach.
"'Technically, it's a perfectly fine vision. Commercially, I worry about the lock-in and VMware defining the stack,' he said."
