BeyondTrust has announced PowerBroker for Virtualization, designed to assist data centers as the migration from physical server to virtual platforms begins. According to this Daily Business News story, PowerBroker for Virtualization provides a cost-effective solution for consistent granular privilege identity management across guest operating systems as well as hypervisor hosts, through a single centralized management console.

Company offers privilege identity management across guest operating systems as well as hypervisor hosts.

"BeyondTrust, the leading provider of Privileged Access Lifecycle Management solutions, today announced PowerBroker for Virtualization, providing a unified solution to centrally address risks from undermanaged privileges in virtualized datacenter environments. As organizations begin their physical server infrastructure migration onto virtual platforms for cost savings, privileged identities on the virtual hosts and guests open an exploitable vector for security breaches and introduce compliance risks.

"'Most virtualized workloads are being deployed insecurely, introducing significant organizational risk,' said Neil MacDonald, VP and Gartner fellow. 'Installation of x86 virtualization platforms should be treated as one of the most critical software layers in data centers, but tools and processes are relatively immature and staff, resellers and consultants are still learning. Because of the critical support the hypervisor/VMM layer provides, administrative access to this layer must be tightly controlled.'"
