According to Viridity Software, the ability to measure data center energy consumption has become increasingly business critical. To that end, the company has announced availability of its EnergyCenter data center energy monitoring, measurement and management software. As stated in the press release on PR Newswire, it helps reduce the risk of power outages, discover additional hidden power, cooling and space capacity, as well as meet sustainability and green data center goals.

The company's new data center management software offers energy monitoring and measurement.

"'The challenges surrounding energy monitoring and management cut across virtually every industry. Be it a financial services, healthcare, media/entertainment or manufacturing organization, and so on – the risks as well as the potential rewards are substantial,' said Jed Scaramella, Senior Research Analyst, Servers & Energy Efficiency, IDC. 'The potential use cases are largely consistent and include data center consolidation or expansion, technology refresh, placement optimization, asset tracking and identification of underutilized assets. However, perhaps one of the most business critical drivers for optimizing energy consumption is the need to guarantee IT availability. Clearly, data centers that are out of capacity are unable to expand to meet the increasing demands of the business.' He continued, 'What I believe customers will also find of particular interest is the ability to utilize EnergyCenter as a rack management tool. This is normally a very time consuming and complicated process. EnergyCenter will help IT managers easily identify optimal placement in order to avoid potential 'hot spots' today, while maximizing placement options in the future.'
